Yoga and psychology : the end

Bouddha

Following our DHARMA means, a full, conscious, good conduct, we live in the present because we think our actions. By dedicating us fully in our actions and thanks to the acceptance of the self and others, we obtain knowledge (Jnana). Rejection leaves the mind in ignorance, while the acceptance becomes as a guide. Our ability to concentrate along with our consciousness of things bring positivity and detachment because we are well aware now that few things only depend on us, everything is a cycle. It becomes then possible to get out of the suffering of the senses, to stop our difficult relationship with the world and the body and our addictions. We just have to be in action, to exist in our actions to realize it.

Vairagya or detachment in our actions, our thoughts and smiles also means focusing in what is healthy or good for us, as friendships of quality or love stories. Only in self-knowledge (Jnana) and positivity that can happens because I have to be convinced that I deserve it : Aishvarya is the result of my positive actions, conscious and detached. It is the manifestation of all the Bhavas into the personality. Dharma, Jnana, Vairagya, Aishvarya, help us identify our value but also our defects, which are found also in psychotherapy. The acceptance and reflection are the first steps towards Aishvarya as well as in psychotherapy. D'ont you think so ? Yoga and psychology restore strength to the individual. We feel so responsible for our actions, and not victims anymore. This is completly another way to face life.

Let's be clear, our general behavior (dharma) already exists in itself. What Yoga prescribes it's to be aware of the direction we are taking. And for that you must use Jnana and Vairagya. Those are the personal resources that exist in each of us. We are born to learn, we are free to fill us with knowledge of quality or to practice the opposite ! The Bhavas, are all already present in the individual and are more like a mental attitude more or less conscient that Yoga and psychology reveal.

What means understanding the Bhavas and his own personality ? It is the practice of Bhavas and knowledge that comes to reveal the true nature of the Ego. The first step is to ask myself : Are all my actions directed towards me, in a selfish matter ? Do there is one action each day that is not to feed myself or to satisfy myself ? The Bhavas inlight it. They follow us throughout life, in a process of subtle combination. We know that the human spirit goes through very defined stages during his life that have their meaning, which can not be avoided because it match the natural evolution of the human mind. We call these 5 steps "BHAVA Bhumi" or attitude of the mind :

KSHIPTA: or psychotic mind. It is a disturbed state and restless which corresponds to the one of the child. The child is never tired but sleeps a lot ! This step consists of 4 negative Bhavas, mentioned in the first part of this article. This means that a child is not conscious of his actions, is empty from knowledge, quite attached (especially to his parents) and unaware of his own strength. This is totaly normal in children age but not in adults one. The reality and emotions are distorted, our memories are biased in childhood most of the time because of that. Unfortunately, some people develop mental psychotic illnesses in adulthood and remain in this step, thinking as a child, the rest of their lives.

MUDHA : Or period of infatuation. This is the phase of adolescence when the inner battle is large and colorful as the Bhavas are in number of 2 positive and 2 negative. It's the battle of self-knowledge, the realization of the Ego. A teenager can be very active (DHARMA), very detached in mocking all (VAYRAGYA), curious (JNANA) or exactly the opposite of all this ... This is according to the combination of negative and positive Bhavas present. This fight will realizes the future adult. But if this state continues to adulthood, it's possible experiencing psychosomatic illnesses. It would be like only possessing half of his personality, his thoughts and his body. Defense mechanisms therefore appear to fill this gap as for exemple projection and manipulation.

VIKSHIPTA : Sometimes it is a stable state of mind and sometimes much less. It is the age of the young adult. It consists of 3 positive and one negative bhavas. In this age, we should be possessing DHARMA, JNANA, and VAYRAGYA perfeclty, the last one can be less mastering than the others. It is a very productive mental state and I am aware of my actions, I have some knowledge and I came out of the circle of addiction of any form but especially emotional one. However my full identity is not revealed yet. I ossille between a concentrated attitude and have a clear direction in my life and the satisfaction of my desires that are often still at this stage unknown. It's a long period of life that, if the others steps have been well lived, will stabilize by itself over time.

EKAGRA: It is the mind focused. I'm much calmer, I can concentrate for long periods. This is composed of 4 positive Bhavas. This corresponds to the advanced adulthood, age of satisfaction. I no longer have any doubts about my leadership and my desires. It is often at this time that we feel the need to share our knowledge and experience accumulated. We should be totally detached emotionally.

NIRODHA : or state of mind stopped, rested, which is found in Buddhism, which is the cessation of suffering, the control of the modifications of our mind. The ego, which is only a mask to protect ourself against anxiety and reality fades. This is the time of the old age that other previous steps will make soft and quiet, quite prepared for death.

Understanding our nature, our ego, means only to answer to our anxieties about death. Yoga is first of all a mental technic that teaches the full self-consciousness in the cycle of nature, and in fact as in Buddhism. lt is not about feeling superior, or even differ on a mission when practicing yoga, or want to convert others, but to feel part of a whole, as the nature teaches us. ll have to think like an reflecting animal, nothing more. Let's so be very carefull to modern prophets of all kinds ...
